The goats were infected on day 0 with 5 × 106 organisms, in 100 μl of blood by subcutaneous inoculation. Mean parasitaemia is given in log10 units per ml of blood and 4.5 on the y-axis represents the limit for detection. The figure shows that both the humid and the savanna zone WAD goats sustained a limited infection with parasitaemia dropping below the levels of detection in the second week after infection.
