The parasite survives and multiplies freely in the hemolymph or penetrates into the hemocytes, especially plasmatocytes. T. rangeli epimastigote short forms (ESF) transform into amastigote forms (AF) or epimastigote long forms (ELF) which are able to invade the salivary gland.
