Detection of Wolbachia infection by ion indicator visualization. (A) With the addition of the ion indicator Hydroxy Naphtol Blue to the LAMP reaction it was possible to determine whether a mosquito specimen was Wolbachia-infected (blue), or -uninfected (purple) using the naked eye. The assay was highly specific with Wolbachia- infected Ae. fluviatilis (1), Culex spp. (2), Ae. aegypti (4), all giving a positive result, while the uninfected An. aquasalis (3) did not.
