Sterols were identified and quantified by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry. L. infantum virulent (vir) or avirulent L5 promastigotes were cultured in either HOMEM or serum free medium (SFM) and harvested for sterol analyses in logarithmic (LOG) or stationary (STAT) growth phases
