Effect of IGF-I on arginase activity in THP-1 infected with Leishmania isolated from patients with different clinical presentations. THP-1 cells were infected with Leishmania isolates from CL (n = 8), ML (n = 7) or DL (n = 7) and maintained in culture with or without IGF-I (50 ng/ml) for 24 h. Representative result of two experiments (mean ± standard deviation). One unit of arginase activity = the amount of enzyme that catalyzed the formation of 1 micromol urea/min.
