HTB decreases NO production and iNOS expression by activated macrophages. Macrophages were pre-incubated overnight with HTB (125 to 1000 nM) and stimulated with LPS plus IFN-γ (10 ng/ml of each). Nitric oxide production was measured after 48 h in cell-free supernatants by Griess reaction (a). The iNOS expression was evaluated after 24 h in cell lysates by Western blot (b). The expression of iNOS and β-actin were determined by densitometry analysis of the bands. Results are presented as a percentage of the control, which corresponds to unstimulated cells (c). Data represent mean ± SEM. *P < 0.05 versus control and #P < 0.05 versus LPS/IFN-γ-activated cells in the absence of HTB
