Notes: Thick smears and modified Knott tests were performed prior to initiation of treatment, every 7 days throughout tetracycline treatment, and monthly thereafter until the dog tested negative for the presence of heartworm antigen. All study dogs tested negative for the presence of circulating microfilariae by study day 168, 3 months after the last melarsomine injection. All dogs received six months of oral HeartgardĀ® Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel)
