Pro-inflammatory cytokines in sera were inhibited after treatment with rSj16 protein and Sj16 peptide. Infected BALB/c mice were respectively injected with PBS, GST protein (50 µg/d), rSj16 (50 µg/d), Sj16 peptide (50 µg/d) for 7 consecutive days before the animals were sacrificed. Serum was obtained for cytokine expression analysis at 6, 8 and 10 weeks post-infection. Results are expressed as the mean ± SEM. Significant differences have been noted, *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01 and ***P < 0.001. Similar results were obtained in three repeat experiments
