Relative prevalence of Trypanosoma DNA in tsetse gut (a) and proboscis (b) samples from four sampling sites in Nigeria. Trypanosoma species were assigned according to ITS1 size estimation [20, 21] and confirmed by sequencing of ITS1 and gGAPDH [22]. All cases of one Trypanosoma species were included in the species count irrespective of the presence of any other trypanosomal DNA (potential mixed infections).
