EVs from Acanthamoeba castellanii trigger the expression of IL-6 and IL-12 by THP-1 cells. THP-1 human monocytic cells were stimulated with EVs from A. castellanii, lipopolysaccharides (LPS) or PBS for 24 h. LPS and PBS served as positive and negative controls for cytokine stimulation, respectively. The mRNA expression levels of IL-6, IL12, CXCL10 were examined by RT-PCR. The results were obtained from three independent experiments and are represented as the mean ± SD. β-Actin was used as an internal control for RT-PCR. *P < 0.05; ns, not significant
