Larvae attached to a mouse exposed to fipronil bait (a) and a control mouse (b). These mice had larvae attached at Day-15 post-exposure. The photos were taken at Day-2 post-tick attachment. Red arrows indicate expired, desiccated larvae and green arrows indicate larvae that are engorging. The partial engorgement and presence of red feces indicate the actively feeding larvae. Photos were taken using a digital microscope (Plugable Technologies, Redmond, WA, USA)
