Comparison of the SNF domain of serotonin transporters (SERT). The multiple sequence alignment utility MUSCLE 3.8.31 [50, 51] was used to align amino acid sequences from Homo sapiens (HsSERT, NP_001036.1), Mus musculus (MmSERT, AAB67172.1), Drosophila melanogaster (DmSERT, NP_523846.2), Schistosoma mansoni (SmSERT, EF061308), Echinococcus granulosus (EgSERT, EUB59773.1) and Echinococcus multilocularis (EmSERT, LT934126.1) SERT. Highly conserved residues are printed white on black background, biochemically similar residues are printed black on gray background. Conserved binding sites for paroxetine [58,59,60,61] in E. multilocularis SERT are indicated by black circles; white ones identify substitutions
