Maximum likelihood phylogenetic trees were constructed with ITS1-5.8S rRNA-ITS2 (a), concatenated nucleotide sequences encoding 89 nuclear genes (b), and concatenated amino acid sequences translated from 89 nuclear genes (c). In all three phylogenetic trees, Babesia naoakii n. sp. formed a sister clade to the common ancestor of B. bigemina and B. ovata
