Molecular phylogenetic relationships among Blastocystis in the present study and representative reference sequences as inferred by the neighbour-joining tree based on the small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene (1690 bp). Genetic distances were calculated using the Kimura two-parameter model. The numbers on the branches are the percentage bootstrap values of 1000 replicates. Evolutionary analyses were conducted in MEGA X; Proteromonas lacertae was used as the outgroup taxon to root the tree. Novel subtypes are represented with a square and other subtypes with a circle; the sequences obtained from the LAG are shown in blue, and those from the HAG are shown in red
