Aedes aegypti Aag-2 cells are able to phagocytose. Aag-2 cells were incubated with 2 × 107 1.0 μm fluorescent red latex beads (Sigma Aldrich) for 1 hour at 28°C (A-C) or 4°C (D-F, control). After this period, cells were fixed with formaldehyde 3.7% for 30 minutes and 0.4% Trypan blue solution in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and observed under a fluorescence microscope.
