Identification of members of the Culex pipiens complex. A total of 504 individuals identified as members of the Culex pipiens complex were screened for species identification by amplifying part of the ace-2 gene following the protocol described by Smith and Fonseca [33]. Of the 504, 32Â % (163/504) were identified as Culex pipiens-Culex quinquefaciatus hybrids, 57Â % (286/504) were identified as Culex pipiens, and 11Â % (55/504) were identified as Culex quinquefasciatus
