Bayesian phylogenetic tree of a 574 bp alignment of 18S sequences of named piroplasm species and novel piroplasm sequences derived from this study. The tree was built using the following parameters: HKY85+G+I model; 1,100,000 Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) length; ‘burn-in’ length of 10,000; subsampling frequency of 200. The tree was rooted with the outgroup sequence Plasmodium falciparum (JQ627152) (not shown). Scale-bar indicates the number of nucleotide substitutions per site
