Phylogenetic tree of ITS2 consensus sequences from all species in analysis database. Consensus sequences for each Trichostrongylus spp. was generated from all available ITS2 sequences in GenBank (see Additional file 1: FASTA Database for sequences and accession numbers). The consensus sequence threshold was 75% and was generated using Geneious 10.1.3. The phylogenetic tree was computed using the MrBayes plugin with GTR substitution model, with 500,000 chain length, and rooted on the Trichuris consensus sequences (being Clade I nematodes compared to the other species which are primarily Clade V nematodes), using Geneious version 10.1.3 (created by Biomatters).
