Overview of the study procedures. Participants were screened systematically for Plasmodium infections using qPCR, mRDT, LM and RT-qPCR. All Plasmodium falciparum qPCR-positive children were invited to participate in DMFAs. Infectiousness of children participating in DMFAs was assessed by mosquito dissection and oocyst detection by microscopy 8 days post-infection. Numbers of infected mosquitoes were attributed to the diagnostic method, which detected the infectious participants
