Geographical distribution by region of Dirofilaria immitis antibody- and antigen-positive healthy companion cats. The prevalence in cats from the West region of the USA (5.4%, 23/429) was significantly higher than that in cats from the South (3.8%, 32/847), Midwest (2.7%, 9/338) and Northeast (2.2%, 12/551) regions (χ2 test, P = 0.044). A difference at P ≤ 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.
