Probe selection. Oligonucleotide probes were applied in horizontal rows, and PCR products were applied in vertical lanes. Lanes 1 to 7 indicate PCR products of the 7 standard strains (Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella flexneri, Aeromonas caviae, Vibrio vulnificus, Salmonella enterica, Proteus vulgaris, and Yersinia enterocolitica, respectively). Rows 1 and 14 represent catch-all probes, while rows 2 to 13 correspond to S. aureus-1, S. aureus-2, S. flexneri-1, S. flexneri-2, A. caviae-1, A. caviae-2, V. vulnificus, S. enterica, P. vulgaris-1, P. vulgaris-2, Y. enterocolitica-1, and Y. enterocolitica-2 probes, respectively
